Beginning, August 16th , 2017, the celebration of African fashion week kicks off in the city of Toronto. This is one of Toronto’s premier events that brings together a collaboration of artistic designers, thinkers, visionaries and more to celebrate the awareness of the African Fashion Industry in Canada and in a sense brands in African Fashion as a form of luxury and elegance. Before this event, however, models and networking enthusiasts will have a potential chance to be a part of something great and unique.
On April 29th, Fashion Ready Organization, the organizers behind AFWT (African Fashion Week Toronto) will host their 4th annual Face of AFWT and Industry Networking Mixer. Models will be given the opportunity to network with key members of the African Fashion Industry to develop their modeling portfolios.
This event marks a great opportunity for the models to expand their work base to even be featured as part of the fashion week festivities.
Established or upcoming models have a chance to make valuable connections and gain insight into the minds of key members of the fashion industry. There is also an African model search where the winner can be featured as the face of AFWT. This opportunity presents African models with an opportunity for positive media representation and promoting the model’s brand to the public. There will be a judging panel consisting of three esteemed individuals, including Isaac Ansah the co-founder of AFWT and the brand and project manager at Image Management & Marketing. “As an organization, it is important for us to not only furnish the talents of fashion designers but also create platforms to spark the careers of models within our community.” says Ansah.
Some industry professionals attending the event include fashion designers, photographers, models, casting agencies, bloggers and many more looking to network in the fashion world. The event will be hosted by Erika, of PR Diva Communications and this year the event is being sponsored by Toronto Fashion Academy, Curl Bar Beauty Salon, My Vida Salon and Spa, SewDa Pop Designs, Such A Pretty Mess, JV Accessories, UnbeauArt and finally Toronto Caribbean Newspaper. Confirmed media partners for the event also include Afroglobal Television, Bloor News, and the Kscope App.
Past fashion designers include those with Canadian-based designs as well as those influenced by countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. In previous years AFWT has also featured student designers, hoping to build up their brand and image as well as network with other designers for extra inspiration. The event will be held at a Toronto luxury spot, Posh Supper Club in Toronto and general admission tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.com and are only $20. This is a nineteen plus event and networking commences at 2 pm.
