Being on a Caribbean island is all about being in a heavenly state of mind. Beautiful beaches, friendly people, and the chance to appreciate nature make the many islands of the region the ideal destination for family vacations as well as romantic encounters. An escape from the hustle of everyday life, one aspect of the Caribbean lifestyle that scores big with visitors is its delicious food.

Heavily influenced by the diversity of the people who live in the Caribbean islands, the food is a lovely mix of regional produce and age-old recipes. Flavours take precedence as do cooking techniques which makes Caribbean cuisine something unique, complex, and delicious. Not only that, the food is perfect for every occasion, from an exceptional dining experience by the beach to a quick bite while on the move and everything in-between. Different events call for different foods around the world, and the next time you have something special planned, make sure you give some of the Caribbean delights a try.

Carnival

A Caribbean carnival isn’t complete without dance, music, lavish costumes, and food. The energy that runs through everyone taking part needs fuel, and food provides that in the form of some fantastic eats. With so many Caribbean festivals taking place around the world, the most iconic dish is the jerk chicken. Spiced up and cooked on the grill, the amazing smell of the chicken filling the air is enough to entice everyone around. Often served with some rice or a fresh salad, it is the perfect meal to satisfy the soul.

Sports Event

Slightly greasy, full of flavours, and easy to pick up and pop into the mouth, those are the basics of any food associated with watching sports. The Caribbean nations have an abundance of street food, but when it comes to finger-food, they score big with Pholourie which is fried chickpea dough served with a tangy chutney. Seafood lovers can also go with conch fritters best served with a little lime and a tartar sauce to dip in and eat away while cheering for your favourite team to win.

Casino Night

Imagine a quiet night at home. You take out your mobile or switch on the computer and settle in for some fun casino gaming. As you play that perfect hand in blackjack or score big in roulette, you start to feel peckish. Now, don’t get lost in the slots jargon because before you move ahead and start spinning, make sure you have a perfect Caribbean bite next to you. Go with a bara which is fried bread with chickpeas or an arepa with ham and eggs, the ideal sandwich for a successful casino night.

Date Night

Date night calls for something special, a bit of an aphrodisiac, maybe something unique that hints towards fine dining without trying too hard. Since the Caribbean is famous for its seafood, tequila-lime shrimp, lobster, or cracked conch served with rice and peas has just the right amount of rustic feel to it as well that wonderful taste that is sure to impress your date. To round off the evening in an authentic manner, make sure you have some Caribbean rum with you to bring about that warmth and a smile after a spectacular meal.
