On Thursday 16th May 2019, Emmanuel Marfo the CEO of Emmanuel’s group of companies officially opened a Butchers outlet with the Leader of Merton Council, Mr Stephen Alambriti being attendance. Additionally, the chief of Bobikuma Nana Nyarko II, social dignitaries, church elders, customers, staff members, and family were present to welcome another outlet to be added to Emmanuel’s group of enterprises.

Emmanuel’s Butchers sells fresh fish and meat in Mitcham, Surrey.  One of the core reasons for deciding to open butchers was to provide a new challenge.

‘’I always ask questions and I challenge myself and I always put myself out there to be the best so those behind can be inspired. That’s what we need in the community, motivation, and inspiration’’ says Marfo.

Marfo was already conversant within the food and business industry before opening the Butchers outlet. Since December 1991 he and his wife have successfully owned Emmanuel’s Barbers at the back of Clapham Junction station and from 2004 opened a Grocery shop in Mitcham.

‘’We do distribution too. I have a warehouse on Latimer Road (North Kensington). We do packaging and are wholesalers. Most of the stuff we have are from Ghana, Nigeria, and West Africa and here (UK). By being wholesalers, we are able to keep prices competitive and affordable’’.

Emmanuel’s Butchers also sells canned products such as ackee, corned beef and sauces, Gari and platinum, flour products. For a more an extensive selection of foods from Jamaica, Barbados, the Caribbean and West Africa; Emmanuel’s grocery shop is conveniently located further along the road on Fairgreen Parade, Mitcham.

The intention is to have Emmanuel’s Butchers selling a variety of meat and fish that caters to a wider demographic of people, while keeping the grocery outlets more focused on primarily West African and Caribbean products.

‘’We have had a lot of nationalities buy from our butchers so far. From backgrounds such as Poland, Asia and English people’’ says Marfo.

The business has been going well at Emmanuel’s Butchers since they officially opened in the last couple of months:

‘’People are surprised to see a black-owned butcher. Why should we not have this? I like to challenge minds. We are looking to expand the fish range. The meat section has oxtail, goat which we all like, we have lamb. We have most of the varieties; cow foot and of course chicken. We try to cater to different needs and are always open to new suggestions’’.
