The Poetic Word

Love

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

Love

That overused

And

Underused word

The moment that word leaves our lips

It changes the dynamics

And opens Pandora’s box

Great walls starting climbing sky high as it continue to get build

To guard that sacred inner place

Love

The key that continues to stir external and internal wars

Where shadows of life burst open

To destroy anything good

Because the heart had been shattered way too long

Love

The greatest of all is love

Yet it is the most misunderstood

And misused

That it is more of a gifted curse

If no precautions were put in place

Humans start to take advantage

And play too many games.

Underestimating that are so much at stake.

Deeds out of love or ulterior motive

Get mixed up

Along the way

Broken hearts live off on heartbreaks

Now generations have to work extra hard

To reverse our ancestors cycles

Which is hard to break.

Imagine a world where love

Is in its purest form

With no residue

Of traumatic cracks

That constantly threatens

To break?

Imagine households raised with love.

Relationships built on love

Children showered by love

Communities support dreams with genuine love

Just having a life of love.

This lifetime or not

A glimmer of hope

A spark of faith

Will only fuel

To achieve this

In unconditional love
