Low, Down, Dirty Fear

What are your deepest fears? Like, what are the things that subtly, oh so very subtly chip away at your thoughts and time?

It’s ok if you don’t know right away. I know I didn’t when I was first asked. I thought that I wasn’t afraid of anything. I thought that I had it all in check, but what I had become was so very good at acting like and talking like I was fearless and that everything was in check. It probably sounds silly or too simple, but I was faking…all the time.

I share this with you in hopes that you are able to reflect on yourself. Where is it that you don’t tell yourself the truth as it relates to the things that you are fearing? Is it that you are afraid that you are not good enough, so something will go wrong? Is it that you are afraid that you will fail or that you will succeed?

Times are really changing. Our mass consciousness is more aware and willing to be open to change…or at least that’s how it feels. Today’s article is about acknowledging fear, not necessarily releasing it or letting it go, but just knowing that it is there.

Let’s start off with why we need to acknowledge fear. Fear is this creative beast. I used to hate it, but then I realized that it is sort of a necessary ‘evil’ in my life. This means, that some fears are reasonable and keep us safe and alive; like fearing being hit by a car-we don’t walk into the road. The problem with fear, though, is when it is hanging around, and we don’t know that it is there, it has a way of eroding the ‘good’ things in our lives.

Take in this visual: a dirty, messy, obnoxious type being is in your home. It wears it’s muddy, sludgy boots in your house; it even cocks up it’s foot on your kitchen table! It hangs its dirty coat in your closet, takes your phone and downloads PAID for apps!

Here’s the thing. As absurd as this depiction sounds, take a minute and imagine all the things that fear has been doing in your life. The intention of this article is that you take a minute to realize if fear is playing a role in your life. Does it have its clothes in your closet, and you don’t even know it?

When we don’t know that fear is a player in our story, we end up making decisions based on its influence in our lives. Often, what one assumes is one’s gut instinct, is often a choice based out of fear. WHOA! When I first heard that, I couldn’t believe it. It made me question my instincts; it made me think that every choice I made had to be second guessed. I suppose this is a normal feeling (so if you’re feeling it right now, it’s ok). But, I think, though, that being able to know when you are feeling fear, what you are feeling afraid of and how it is effecting your decisions will help clear out the ‘mess’ that sits in front of your instincts, so you can make the instinctual choices that will more greatly benefit your life.

A wise woman once told me, “just because you don’t see something, doesn’t mean that it’s not there. I took it to heart.

What does fear look like in your life? Do you see it hanging around in your home and eating your food? It is probably time to see fear for what it is.
