My advice to young kids navigating social media

“Advice is like snow; the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind”

How old were you when you got your first phone? Most children right now already have phones and access the social media using a few clicks.

We all had to go online because of this pandemic, hence giving small ones more screentime and more time to discover new apps.

When I started going on the web, I used my mom’s gmail allowing her to see my apps and what I was watching from her phone. I definitely made mistakes, but I learned from it.

My advice to young kids on social media is to always ask for their parent’s permission to download or watch something.

When downloading an app please respect the age limit, it is there because the app probably has some content they don’t want young kids to see.

Cyber bullying is a problem, in fact 1 in 3 kids are cyber bullied online. If you’re being bullied online tell a parent immediately, hiding the fact of bullying will decrease your self-esteem.

Make sure you put your device far from your head since it transmits radiation, this will not distract you when you’re sleeping, this can prevent insomnia.

Whether you are new to social media or you’ve been on it for ages you need to be careful.

“It doesn’t matter about how smart you are, it matters about how you decide to use this knowledge and pass it to others.”

“Don’t use social media to impress people; use it to impact people.”
