As the new school year opens its gates for new and recurring students, it is hard to forget the broken bridge in our education journey. Covid has left such a big gap in everyone’s lives.

Some kids were online for the past two years leaving their school experience foggy.

Students graduated high school and middle school online and didn’t get that congrats party they deserved.

As someone who has been doing online school for the past two years, I entered high school orientation with an open mind. After the second week of school finishes, I realize what I have missed out on in the time I was online.

High School is treating me with mixed feelings. I liked waking up two minutes before school started because I didn’t have to get dressed. I would wake up, brush my teeth and get on the computer. Now I have to wake up an hour and thirty minutes before school starts to get myself dressed, my lunch packed and out the door. I miss how last year, I never needed to go up three flights of stairs. Now, I walk up at least six flights of stairs every single day. I appreciate that I don’t have gym this semester, I would not make it up those stairs.

Switching classes every seventy-five minutes isn’t always easy, there are always large crowds on the steps longing to go to their classes. This semester, I have a balance of courses. Science first period, french second period, geography third period, after lunch, and art last period to end things off. For the new school year, I wish everyone success and a non-stressful 190 days of upcoming learning.

“School bells are ringing louder, summer is over, school is here.”
