Brampton, ON, December 4th, 2018 – The Trudeau’s Liberal Government has given City of Brampton $1.5 million in funding for a downtown flood protection project. The funding will be used to conduct an environmental assessment to propose a preferred alternative for addressing flood protection and eliminating the risk of flooding from Etobicoke Creek to the Downtown core of Brampton. Eliminating flood risks will help keep residents safe while reducing the cost of disaster relief in the event of a major flood event.
“Downtown Brampton is in a floodplain, as a result, a major flood event would significantly damage public and private property while putting the safety of residents at risk. These factors restrict intensification in downtown Brampton, a critical economic hub and urban centre in Brampton. Our Trudeau Government’s investment will help mitigate major flooding in the downtown core while stimulating economic growth and job creation.
