BY GLORIA O’KOYE
Leaving the comfort of home that held so many memories…
Since the first breath
The first cry,
The first smile,
The first steps,
The first friends,
The first soul ties
Entering the mighty beast
That our ancestors would never believe,
Except it was a loud rigid dragon.
A thought that was only seen as dreams
Leaving the warmth of home cooked meals
And 24/7 convenient stores,
A place that had constant accessibility,
Towards a place with open signs
Showing it’s only “Open Till 6”
Humbled by all of the years that were taken for granted
Whenever there were late night cravings,
And random times being with friends
To check out super late restaurants
Filling up our empty stomachs
To the place unknown
Where time goes slow,
Where community knows one another
Where you see the stars and northern lights glow
Leaving the comfort of a place call home
But home had also been exhausting,
Crisis after crisis
Sparking poverty and violence
Sirens became an anthem,
So maybe peace would come in these unknown lands
These unknown lands are rich with teachings
And will be crystal clear
Away from the various city distractions
Something new, but a place to ease away the
Scars of city pains
Maybe,
A blanket of peace and nurturing mental health
Can put an overworking mind to a much-needed slumber
Enjoying life instead of watching the days go by quicker
A place to get back into the love of art
Writing down new adventures
Fall in love with snowflakes
Each unique in its storytelling patterns
A new chapter,
No regrets,
Blessings,
In looking forward
To a new land where it will be a new home,
Only time will tell how long this chapter will be
