Poem by Gloria O’koye
Got voices screaming out chants!
Say enough of playing by the code…
They took one of ours
So now everybody is fair game.
Talks of unity goes down the drain,
No more sit downs to resolve in a peaceful way.
They say war is only answer,
Can’t you see the blood tears trickling down each grieving face?
Marches & rallies are just for show
And photo Ops.
Another generation added to the Bitterness
That clogged up the older ones.
Watching young and old
Sipping on that lean
And taking puffs.
Plotting on the next steps
To crush another mother’s heart.
Dealing with voices is a war
No one has been able to maintain.
Every party is affected
Everyone from all sides of the fence
Feels pain.
The power of the tongue can
Make and break any gathering into
A hunting game.
Takes an outwardly discipline,
It takes a bigger person to successfully
Gain.
Many these voices be subdued
Before more tragedies plague this place.
A city that is home to many….
Shouldn’t always have to be tainted…
By these voices in people’s brains.
