The Poetic Word

Renewal

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

Giving the world the best quality

At the cost of consistency in energy,

Without refilling the cup.

Burning out like a flickering wick

Which had been charred with countless scars.

It was only a matter of time

When even the most compassionate

Have had enough.

Human love cannot always be taken for granted,

Regrets will be like the Nile during annual floods.

Remembering what prosperity felt like

Before the long and lonely droughts.

Stop mistreating those who care,

A wise teacher once said

To offer back the first fruits before harvesting,

To replenish gifts that were generously continuing.

In order for the cycle of give and receive to rotate in harmony,

Know the worth of genuine and pure love,

With good intention.

See blessings come forth and bless the tables

Who have renewed weary hearts.

Expect a grand opening of delights

With no hesitation.
