A good neighbourhood is a priceless treasure

BY SABRINA S. – 12 YEARS OLD

Creating a better neighbourhood is something that many of us want to do for very obvious reasons. Living in a good neighbourhood will pay dividends in terms of higher property values and a more enjoyable place to live.

Ultimately though, bettering your neighbourhood is a relatively complicated endeavor. Not only do you need to take action yourself, but you’ve got to get your neighbours to act in order to create a better community. Fortunately, with some work and some time, you’ll be on the road to making your neighbourhood a better place.

One should start from their home by maintaining your home, lawn and yard. Avoid accumulating junk in your neighbourhood. We shouldn’t create problems for your neighbours.

Avoid all sorts of pollution, noise etc. Try to be friendly with your neighbours. Organize an annual block party and try to discuss and find out solutions for the problems. Organize a gardening club to keep our neighbourhood green. Start a crime stoppers group to avoid crimes.

Volunteer in your neighbourhood as a mentor to troubled kids. Join your homeowner’s association. Try to help senior citizens by helping them cross the road and doing little tasks around their home.

Start a neighbourhood library, a good way to expand one’s literary explorations.

If we wish to rebuild our cities, we must first rebuild our neighbourhoods. Good neighbours make a huge difference in the quality of life.
No one is rich enough to do without a neighbour.
