Adding some of the latest shoe trends to your collection is a great way to update your wardrobe essentials

BY LATIFA PINNOCK

Growing up, we have all been told at some point in our lives, to “Put our best foot forward,” but what did that truly mean? What happens when we put our best foot forward? Though the term was never meant to be taken literally, I think subconsciously, we have all adapted to that behaviour. We do it when we are meeting someone for the first time, we do it for job interviews, and we do it in social settings.

My musical anthem for the summer is a famous line from a Bob Marley song “The sun is shining and the weather is sweet, makes you want to move your dancing feet”

By now you should have ditched those ankle boots and closed toe shoes for a pair of strappy sandals or sky-high platforms/wedges.

Adding some of the latest shoe trends to your collection is a great way to update your wardrobe essentials. From the office, to the runway, it is clear that comfort remains a priority for the latest footwear.

Platform and wedge heels have been around for decades, they gained popularity back in the 1940’s, and took the place of pumps. Over the years we’ve seen many shoe trends come and go, but the wedge and platform heels are a forever staple. In 2022 they have reinvented the wedge and platform heels, and they are more popular than ever. Some of our favourite styles of footwear have been transformed into wedged heels, much like the pointed toe slingback, which is popping up everywhere. Let’s just say, that the latest shoe trends will complement any look,

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love ankle straps. One of the most underrated shoe styles is the ankle strap. This classic style has the versatility that another shoe could not. Ankle straps come in so many variations, from the conservative pump, to the strappy wrap up, ankle strap shoes are definitely in it for the long haul.

If you are going for something more casual, platform sandals are a sleek and sexy way to complete your look. So, the next time you go shopping, why not try on a pair of platform sandals with your apparel, I guarantee you that you won’t want to leave them behind.

I looked back at some of the shoe trends over the years, and what I noticed was that shape and colour definitely took precedence over details. As the mix match and colour popping trend continues to evolve, many designers and stylists have been pushing fashion forward, with big heeled, bright coloured shoes, because, let’s face it, big and bright shoes get noticed.

It is no secret to anyone that we live in a society that judges others based on the way they are dressed. How we dress plays a huge factor in the type of service we receive, if we will be considered for the job, or which social circle we fit into. Though it is unrealistic to put our best foot forward all the time, it is very important to represent ourselves very well, and what better way to give off a first impression than by dressing well, and most importantly, showing off your own personal style.
