Be thankful you live in the suburbs

BY SYDNEE WALCOTT

Sure, the suburbs might be quiet and may be viewed as a boring area with no “action going on” to some, but at the end of the day, there’s nothing wrong with living in the suburbs and in reality, it’s a better place to live overall.

Located outside of a city, the suburbs are known for being the complete opposite of what the busy city life is all about. You won’t see any high-rise condos or apartments, work towers and you probably may not be within walking distance of a mall, restaurant or any other place of business when you’re out in the suburbs.

This is because suburban areas are also known for being quiet, so not a lot happens in these areas.

There are a lot of problems that inner city areas are unfortunately plagued by. The issues include: housing and a lot of criminal activity ranging from gang violence to drugs.

For some reason, there are kids living in suburban areas who find these areas to be more exciting and like to claim they are from “the hood” without having a full grasp of why these areas should not be glamoured as a great place to live.

Some kids seem to find excitement in being in a gang, selling drugs and victimizing people through assault and/or theft due to what they see is being portrayed in the media.

What these kids fail to understand is that nothing good ever comes from breaking the law and taking part in criminal activities can catch up to them. If the police don’t catch them, another citizen may decide to take matters into their own hands and do something way worse.

Also, not everyone who lives in inner city areas is a criminal. However, despite being law-abiding citizens, innocent people still worry about their own safety and the safety of their loved ones.

Over the years, we have seen stories on innocent people such as: Candace Rochelle Bobb and Dante Andreatta Marroquin, have become victims of the issues that plague inner city areas and the pain that their families have had to endure by losing a loved one through violence.

Crime can happen anywhere regardless of whether you live in the suburbs or not. However, even though the suburbs might be deemed as boring to you, living in a safe area that has little to no criminal activity is something that no one should ever take for granted.
