Betsson – New Sponsor for Chile’s National Football Team

Sports betting and live casino giant Betsson has become the new sponsor of the Chilean national football team. La Roja is heading for the qualifications for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the official sponsorship agreement is to last until December 2022.

Betsson has been expanding its sportsbook and casino operations to the LatAm region for the last couple of years and sponsoring Chile’s national team is one of those important steps. As we know, football is the number one sport across all of Latin America and sponsoring La Roja is important for Betsson to establish their brand in Chile.

“The passion that the Chileans have for football is one of the strongest we’ve seen in Latin America,” said Andrea Rossi, Commercial Director Latin America at Betsson. “Through this partnership with the Chile National Football Team, we want to add value to the football fans in the country, support the National Team in Copa America and be part of the exciting World Cup journey and share the hope to see Chile qualify for their tenth appearance in the World Cup tournament.”

Betsson is already a strong and established brand in Europe where online gambling and sports betting have been popular pastimes for well over a decade. This sort of entertainment is rising in popularity in Chile and Betsson is hoping to use this growth opportunity in the country.

Apart from the sponsorship deal with La Roja, Betsson also made a brand ambassador agreement with Iván Zamorano – a former captain of the national team who during his career was the 4th top scorer of La Roja. The 54-year-old football star has played in top European clubs such as Real Madrid and Inter Milan and is justifiably one of Chile’s most recognized footballers.

Sebastián Iturriaga, the Marketing Manager of the Chilean Football Federation, said “We are very happy to have Betsson as the new digital sponsor of La Roja. It is a company with a great presence in sports worldwide and with significant growth in recent years. Undoubtedly this alliance will be beneficial for both parties.”

Mediapro Chile – the company that oversees the commercial rights of the national team, also sees the partnership as beneficial to both parties. Javier Villanueva, Mediapro’s General Manager said that “Our focus is to incorporate innovation into La Roja’s sports sponsorship and what better way to do it than with a global brand like Betsson. Today we have a differentiating and global strategy that Mediapro proposed when it licensed the commercial rights of the Chilean National Team.”

This is not the first time that Betsson decides to sponsor a football team in Latin America. Earlier last year they became the official online sportsbook sponsor for Liga 1 Movistar, which is the most prominent football tournament in Peru. The sponsorship aims to strengthen loyalty to the sport and encourages the development of professional football in the country. Besides, Betsson can provide digital entertainment to thousands of Peruvian football fans.

Chile is the sixth on the CONMEBOL qualifying standing and would need to get to one of the top four positions to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
