BOO! Did I scare you? Top ten safety tips for this Halloween

BY KAHA G – 15 YEARS OLD

It’s a spooky month folks! As Halloween creeps up on us, we should take measures to ensure everyone’s safety. This is why I will provide safety tips in this article, so you have a safe Halloween.

  1. Safety first, people! Make sure costumes fit snugly to avoid tripping hazards and while there will be many mini firefighters, ensure costumes are flame resistant.
  2. Second, deck out your costumes and treat bags with reflective tape or accessories. Shine bright like a jack-o’-lantern!
  3. Grab your trusty flashlights, or even better, some glow sticks to light your way on your candy crusade. Stay on the sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing streets.
  4. Note to the parents, keep an eye on your little trick-or-treaters. Kids under 12 should have a responsible adult by their side.
  5. Make sure to check candy cautiously. Examine all treats for tricks like allergens before your kids make them disappear.
  6. For this sugar sprint, remind trick-or-treaters to stay hydrated by bringing water along.
  7. Make sure your little witches and wizards have identification with contact information just in case they wander away.
  8. If wearing masks, ensure proper ventilation and good visibility. Consider makeup or face paint as a safer alternative.
  1. Remind kids to only visit well-lit houses and to skip houses that look spooky or unsafe.
  2. Lastly, be prepared for unpredictable weather. Bring umbrellas for rainy nights and dress warmly for chilly ones.

Thank you to Dr. Anne Wormsbecker, Chief of Pediatrics at St. Joe’s, for providing this safety tip to make this Halloween a spooky yet safe adventure for all.
