The Poetic Word

Check on your loved ones!

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

Check on your loved ones
Short days and cold
Can spark up unwanted thoughts
Much more

Winter is a time that represents rest
An ending of a cycle
Winter is a time of reflecting
An entire year,
Good and bad
There is no telling
How the mind wanders.
Guard your heart with
All you got,
Keep it stable at all cost

Spirits depart the most
During this time,
See it as a time that tears
Turn to rivers that nourish
The soil representing the soul
A transition to the unknown may stir fear
But it is the truth
That all of our journeys
Would eventually follow

Just as seasons take turns
To make its mark,
Winter blues will have its moments
But just continue to focus on the support networks
Maybe create something that
Will address what it is hidden,
Allow this period of time
To heal what is neglected
