Do not give the past the power to define you

BY SABRINA S. – 12 YEARS OLD

I have been writing these articles for a while, but I wasn’t always good at writing.

From kindergarten to grade four, I sucked at writing, but my grade five teacher always had us write about something the second we came into class. It didn’t have to be about a certain topic, it was where the topic leads you. He told us to write more than one page. A lot of my writing interests came from that class. In 6th grade, I wrote a lot of book reports and essays, which made my knowledge and interest of writing increase. I loved the fact that I could put down my thoughts on paper and relate it to a book report. It helps a lot to write every day and read for more than thirty minutes each day.

“Try, try but don’t cry”

I wanted to take my skills to the next level, with the help of my mother. She taught me words to use that made my essays sound perfect and how to support my answers. You definitely need someone to lead the way in your path.

Besides writing every day and finding someone to support you, here are tips that can improve your writing.

Catch up on your spelling and grammar, learn the basics about writing such as sentence structure. Using deep quotes or poems, write down what they mean and how the author of the quote came up with it. And lastly, write like it is your job, pour your feelings and thoughts onto the page, block out any disturbance or sound, who knows maybe it will calm you.

All of these tips and tricks will help you find an interest in writing and help your writing get better.
