The Poetic Word

Holiday Reflections

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

Christmas cheers

Christmas tears.

New year celebrations

While others mourn

For all that has happened

Within the last year.

Times of family gatherings

Or a reminder of loneliness.

A holiday can bring up memories,

Both in grief and in happiness!

What joy is to open up homes,

For New year resolutions.

Writing down goals and envision,

Finding accountability partners

For the taking.

To prepare meals to be shared

Amongst family, friends and folks.

Reflecting on the lessons that the

Past months have brought,

And what wisdom that we took.

Reflecting that it shouldn’t only

Be on holidays,

To check on each other’s well-being.

The spirit of giving and receiving

Should be happening

Throughout every second

That we are breathing.

Reflecting on habits that should be broken

And restart with healthier options.

Pushing all the time,

Not wait till the clock strikes midnight

To pray for new beginnings.

Reflecting on missed milestones,

We shouldn’t abandon our end goals

Because it’s not right on schedule.

To pick up where we left off,

Continuing that eager soul to thrive,

Feeling refreshed to move forward.

Holiday reflection can happen

Any place, time of the year.

A season to be grateful

Should happen

Every moment that we are here.
