Poem Written by Gloria O’koye
Breathe…
Stress will tamper your health when
You’re overwhelmed.
Inhale…
Allow gratitude to fill up the weary lungs
To regain strength again.
Hold that breath…
As if it was a newborn’s cries
Waiting for the human experience
Of paternal love,
After transitioning from angelic midwives.
Exhale…
Releasing all those moments of
Staring into space
In a soul entomb
Of emptiness.
Exhale out the phlegm of
Worthlessness.
Enemy of hopes and dreams.
Contemplating on life
As eyelids battle to open,
Or fall into slumber like Snow White
Without the curse breaking free
From a true love kiss.
Items becoming a gateway to test
Creation and enter the unknown.
Breaking the veins are crystal clear
Reminders of forests uprooted,
Stirring up landslides and destruction
To the ecosystem that was the pillar,
Sustaining the spirit of love and heaven’s
Gifts inside.
Sitting at the edge
Wanting to plunge into the ocean of chaos
And darkness.
Flashing lights entertain taboo thoughts
But outsiders only mock the surface.
Sometimes it helps to be validated of self
And to be listened to.
Sometimes
A lost being just needs to be talked to
While walking through the tunnel.
Sometimes a being needs to know what’s worth living for,
A glimmer of importance
Of future plans to work towards.
