The Poetic Word

Just more empty promises; Part 1

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

Apologies

Apologies

Apologies.

Sweet words to swallow

Phrases frolicking on eardrums

Before turning bitter once it’s fully digested.

The truth hurts,

But who wants to accept it?

More bandages on open wounds

Pouring out silenced voices,

So annual end reports for grants

Would look good.

Bodies from rich family roots continue to be

Mocked and targeted.

Something that always happen

So there is nothing new about it.

Just a sorry

And another Oops,

To go along

With more empty promises.

The words

‘We want change!’

Continues to be more diluted

With unanswered cries

From the lands of weeping souls

That deserve more than just justice!

The words from the people were not enough!

Until it became a social sector trend

Now numbers and statistics are popping up!

The public gasp

In their half-hearted shock!

Just another wave of empty promises

But who really benefits

The community or the people that are higher up’s?
