The Poetic Word

Love is Love; to love, be Ready for the Cost

BY GLORIA OKOYE

To love people and support

Means that the heart and soul

Will forever be tested.

The emotional scars will be imprinted

And would eventually develop like callouses.

The hurt may be there

Which digs deeper for empaths

That will endure verbal slashes

From the very communities

During arguments

“Who are you to speak out, you are just another outsider!”

“What gives you the right if your feet didn’t fit the glass slipper of woes and tribulations?”

To love people and stand up

Is like walking on shells and hot

Coals

One minute you have an army behind your back

And another you are the target

On your own

Closed lips and quietness

Spark paranoia.

Provoking reactions

To remain in the bubble,

End results that they had ever known.

No one knows the backstory

Until it is spoken of

Being discreet may protect profession

In the long run

But constant jabs

Could have you question

Is it worth the mental cost?

Love for the people

Is an unending war,

Which thick skin has to be developed,

Or walk away from it all.

Love is love

Love is tested.

But you would never know your true purpose and passion

Unless those talks

Behind closed doors

Contemplating

Have you still standing

And saying yes to the vows of

Your life destination
