Nurse turned realtor empowers the Black community to make healthy lifestyle choices and wise financial decisions

BY PAUL JUNOR

Natasha Jones has contributed significantly to improving the physical, mental, and emotional health of the Canadian community as well as elevating their financial health.

For twenty-three years she worked as a registered nurse, including working for the government for fifteen years. She was born in Kitchener, Ontario where she completed her early primary and secondary education before studying nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly known as Ryerson University. She began her nursing career in the intensive care unit at Brampton Civic Hospital, which is part of the William Osler Health System from 2000 to 2004.

Subsequently, she worked in the emergency department at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga from 2004 to 2007. Afterward, Natasha worked full-time for six years as a program manager at Mississauga Home and Community Care Support Services (MHCCAC) from 2006 to 2012. She then worked as a CCAC Manager of Operations for HHS Hospital in the Oakville, Milton, and Georgetown areas from February 2011 to February 2012. Subsequently, she became the Manager of Operations for HHS Hospitals based in Mississauga from March to December 2012 to March 2014.

Natasha subsequently worked from March 2014 to February 2019 as an inspector with the Compliance Branch of the Ontario, Ministry of Health. In this capacity, as an inspection team lead, she conducted inspections for compliance with the long-term care acts and regulations.

In order to expand her professional skills, Natasha studied real estate at Humber College and was licensed as a realtor in January 2017 with the Ontario Real Estate Association. Between December 2019 and March 21st, 2020, she worked as a real estate salesperson for Keller Williams Realty, Inc. in Kitchener, and as a realtor from June 2021 to the present.

In celebration of Nurses Week, from May 9th -13th, 2022, Natasha posted an uplifting and enlightening post on her Facebook page about what it means to nurse for almost 24 years. She writes, “Nursing for me is just a job. Whether the focus is to improve or preserve life or to prevent suffering in death… whether it is starting an IV, revising health policy, teaching new nurses, advocating for a patient in court, issuing non-compliance for elder abuse, leading a hospital team, or restarting a heart, the end game and my desire is to show compassion and care for ALL people whether at their best or at their worst.”

In my many conversations with Natasha, she has expressed her desire to open a private home for the Black community that offers culturally appropriate services. This is the culmination of her purpose in life.
