Many education stakeholders with reserved joy and hopeful anticipation greeted the announcement by the Ontario Government on Thursday, November 25th that Ontario high schools will return to regular semesters in Winter 2022.
There have been many complaints from parents, students, teachers and education advocacy groups about the “modified semesters” that high school students across Ontario had to adapt and adjust to.
This involves students being enrolled in four classes, such that they have to repeat two classes every other week. This disruption in their academic programming largely resulted from school boards rescheduling their timetables from March 2019 due to the COVID-19 regulations that came into effect.
