The Poetic Word

Shortcuts may have a lifetime price that you’ll have to pay

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

Technology getting smarter

As brains get more tired.

Easier access to different resources

Got people become lazier.

Hustler’s mentality is becoming a dying breed,

If you spot one

Make sure to cherish

And fulfil their needs.

One push,

Will send them to positions beyond

Anyone could’ve seen,

So rare

So precious

Something that was shocking,

But not surprising.

Like a plan to force people to have co-dependency in order to achieve.

Grew up with folks with million dollar dreams,

Not even circumstances could stop the drive

If only they had the platforms to give them that necessary reach.

Selling CD’s out of trunks

Performing outside of malls

Praying that their art could be able to feed.

9 to 5,

Saving up,

Exhausting wallets,

Only hoping for one break to succeed.

Nowadays even if networks and suggestions,

Get served up front

It is not enough.

Expecting hand-outs,

Bottle-fed minds,

Lurking for a chance

To be a sellout.

A lot of dreams

Only a few can make it out.

A world full of hand-me-downs

While some others who are more deserving

Are shunned,

Because their drive was inspired from behind bars.

Or those who put others before them

While working hard day and night.

Lack of sleep to see others win,

They deserve entire worlds,

To acknowledge their shine.

A lesson to learn in life

Is to put in the effort,

Humble yourself

Don’t expect,

For things to just be given.

Because fast giveaways

Have a price tag,

Just know

Shortcuts

May have a lifetime price

That

You’ll have to pay!
