The Poetic Word

Society is the definition of insanity

BY GLORIA O’KOYE

No justice!

No peace!!

No justice!!!

No peace!!!!

No justice, no peace!!!!!

Okay, that’s enough chanting

It had already been two weeks!

The chants storm through the horizon

Cutting crisp with its roars like the mighty

Seas clashing against the shorelines named

Occupation.

The leaves representing freedom fighters Trickle down as the seasons pass

Every global movements are treated as

Equinoxes,

Come and go as it pleases

Depending on everyone mood and

Sometimes boredom.

Intentions are like the eyes,

The windows to the souls.

A false rage annihilates entire communities,

Connections as if love was just a rainforest

Meant to be engulfed by wildfires

With no stormy clouds to quench the thirst

Of drought plagued bodies,

Wanting to seek internal peace

From the constant battles.

Mountains of riches flood through the gates

Of hungry mouths and greedy souls.

Everyone fighting for the crumbles

And chants become weaken as every

Cheque gets bigger, circulating the once

Humble minds into vicious spirals.

Opportunists jump with glee as they step

On the backs of those whose passion is pure

Just to fill up their bellies.

Even as it’s contents of past bodies spill

Across the poverty stricken streets

Of the repeating cycles.

The same pattern emerges again

The same posts circulates again,

The same pointing fingers and guilt tripping

Is happening again.

Society is the definition of insanity,

When they entrapped in a living box

Of temporary justice.

The ancestors continuously love yet shake their heads.

When will these repeats finally end?
