What you do makes a difference, and you must decide what kind of difference you want to make

BY SABRINA S. – 13 YEARS OLD

March isn’t really a special month, there aren’t any holidays like Christmas or Halloween. Some people have birthdays in March but everyone I know does not have any birthdays in March. We also don’t have a super long break like winter break, we do have a spring break in March but that’s only for 5 days.

March is like any other month, with lots of school and work. However, there is a holiday that celebrates hard-working people. International Women’s Day. Every year, on March 8th, we celebrate women.

Women do a lot of things for everyone. Mothers give life and sometimes other women have to take the role of a mother. Women have created many things that help us in our daily lives as well.

Did you know that the home security system was created by a woman? That’s right, Marie Van Brittan Brown created home security systems. Without her invention, danger could have struck all of us. There are also many other things that were created by women as well. The fold-out bed, the dishwasher, the car heater, and feeding tubes were all invented by women.

Some of these inventions have saved lives! Feeding tubes for example. Feeding tubes help nourish babies and people who are unable to eat by themselves. Something simple as a car heater is also an invention that comforts. Imagine driving while the cold weather outside seeks inside your car. If you’re stuck in a blizzard, without a car heater and no help on the way, your life inside the car would be miserable.

Take some time and tell your favorite lady that she matters a lot. “Peace comes from unity.”
