My people, we have always been the curators of our stories. From the rhythmic drums of our ancestors to the bold journalism, we produce today at the Toronto Caribbean Newspaper, our voice is our currency. Today, that voice is being challenged and amplified by a new force: Artificial Intelligence.
I know the hesitation; history has taught us to be wary of new systems that could be used to exclude, or misrepresent us. However, as we look through the lens of psychological insight and power dynamics, we must realize that mastering these tools is about equity.
To lead, we must understand. We must learn how AI can harm us through bias and hallucinations, but more importantly, how it can help us scale our impact. Let’s look at your digital council. If I had to pick two tools to help you reclaim your time and sharpen your message, they would be ChatGPT and Claude.
Think of them as different personalities in your organization. Claude feels like the analytical math-and-science kid in the back of the class. When you are looking for accurate statistics and deep research, Claude is your go-to because it tends to hallucinate less than other models. It handles long documents with grace and writes in a way that feels incredibly human, requiring less editing because it isn’t obsessed with repetitive quirks.
On the other hand, ChatGPT is the English-and-History guy who can pass any test without breaking a sweat. It is fast, agile, and brilliant for brainstorming. If you upgrade to the Plus version, it transforms into a real assistant (an AI Agent) that can actually log into your sites and perform tasks for you, rather than just giving advice. It has a persistent memory, meaning it learns your specific writing style and preferences over time, making your interactions feel deeply personalized.
The strategic move? Brainstorm your raw ideas in ChatGPT, then take those seeds to Claude to perfect the visuals and the data.
While both offer free versions, the “Pro” versions (at about $20 a month) provide the advanced reasoning and firepower necessary for equity-focused entrepreneurs and cultural leaders to compete at the highest levels.
We cannot afford to stay cynical. We must stay curious. By integrating these tools, we heal divisions and build a future where our narratives are powered by the best technology available.
