What makes you who you are? What makes you different from others? What makes you a good person?

As every school year starts, I’m always found answering these questions. Identity is very important, to you, to everyone around you. Everyone is unique in their own way and some of their characteristics might not match yours and that is what makes everyone special.

Everyone has their own identity and no one else can change it. No one can tell you to be someone you’re not. It is always uncomfortable trying to fit in, you might as well stand out.

You can identify someone by their looks, if they wear glasses, if they are short/tall, if they’re a child/adult, but you can never look beyond that without getting to know that person first. Someone might be wearing a purple shirt, but they might not like the color purple and wore that shirt because they didn’t have any other shirts. The point is to not judge an unknown person.

Not all drummers like heavy rock songs, they might just like slow songs or hip-hop.

“Judging a person does not define who they are, it defines who you are.”

What makes you…you?

Well, the red glasses I wear everyday makes me who I am since they are always on my face and I’m unrecognizable without them. My hobbies make me who I am, I like playing volleyball with my brother as my mom watches us. I like drawing/painting and never like

learning math or geography. My culture is a part of who I am too. I’m a proud Muslim that loves to celebrate Eid and have fun with my friends.

So, the question is: What makes you…you?
