The Direct Disruption

“We Taught Our Sons to Survive. We Forgot to Teach Them How to Heal.”

Photographer: Nathan B

This month, Toronto Caribbean Newspaper is going to focus on those that have been taught that silence is strength. For too long, that same silence has been the heaviest weight they carry.

Next edition, I will be writing something meant for you, the men of the Caribbean and the Caribbean Diaspora. I need you to read it, and I need your voice to be part of it.

Let’s talk.

The article will focus on how often you  treat your bodies and minds like machinery that never needs maintenance. If a machine is breaking down, you fix it; if a man is burning out, he retools.

The goal is to dismantle the idea that silence is strength and replace it with the concept that reclamation of self is the ultimate power move.

It will focus on what you were not taught by your fathers. It will address the emotional silence passed down through generations and position the act of sharing as a way to break a cycle so that the next generation (your sons) do not have to carry the same weight.

True power is self-knowledge. I argue that the most dangerous man is the one who has mastered his internal landscape so completely that nothing catches him off guard.

So, here is my question to you,

“If you could strip away the mask you wear to show the world you are handling it, and finally speak the truth about the one internal battle that keeps you up at night, what would that truth be, and what is it costing you to keep it hidden?”

Your story is not just yours; it is a vital piece of our collective strength. I am curating these voices to show our community that we are stronger when we are honest. Everything you share will be handled with absolute respect and care.
