Since the 2010’s not only have we seen the rise of social media culture, but we’ve also seen the rise of another culture as well.

Hook-up culture started to become more frequent in the 1920’s, as young adults were able to explore their sexuality more freely. Cars and movie theatres started to become popular during this period, and it was about this time that the hook-up culture became more popular.

With social media and dating apps increasing in popularity and becoming prevalent in our lives, more people continue to take advantage of this newfound popularity by using these apps as an easy way to meet potential partners to hook-up with.

This has led to some people abandoning relationships altogether as they are only focused on wanting to have an intimate experience without having to maintain a long-term commitment to someone.

At one point, I even thought to myself about the difficulties there are forming relationships in this day and age due to how normalized hook-up culture has become.

To make matters worse, some people resort to deception and manipulation just so that they can hook-up with someone, anyone, which is not something, anyone should do.

Yes, people can be successful at achieving more encounters when they lie, but they’ll eventually realize that honesty goes a long way and they may go on to have regrets in the future.

Some people tend to forget there are consequences to having sex. Children, who are the product of a hook-up, may have to suffer from their parent’s choices, and may not understand why it’s not a good idea to have children outside of a relationship.

STDs can cause serious harm to one’s body and can even be deadly.

However, there does appear to be a shift in feelings toward casual sex as many people have expressed their discontent with hook-ups over the past few months. Many of these feelings have been expressed through videos posted on TikTok and Youtube.

There have even been people commenting on these videos sharing their regrets about taking part in hook-up culture, because it has made them feel as if it is the reason why they are having difficulty with finding someone who they could develop a meaningful relationship with.

Hopefully people will realize that sex is not a game and the importance of having respect for oneself, but if you chose to continue to partake in casual sex, be honest with people about your intentions, and understand you may have to face the consequences of having sex.
