BY GLORIA O’KOYE
Was there a place in the back of the mind,
Where there was gratitude for existence.
Co-existing with those whom ancestors
Roam for millennia and more.
Playing its roles,
Watching dominant inhabitants
Rise and fall.
Was there moments taken daily or weekly,
To be still and observant.
Acknowledging a world that’s been patient
And slow to anger,
From all the mistreatments.
Yet nature continues to provide the
Basics of survival.
Replenishes itself with
Dwindled spirits
That still respects symbiotic bonds.
Nature will tolerate being unloved
For only so long.
All have witnessed the fury in wildfires,
Tsunamis, volcanic eruptions to typhoons,
Plenty more.
Extinction does not discriminate,
It’s part of the cleansing process
That will remain on course.
